The producer

Who are they?

Kir-Yianni was founded in 1997 by Yiannis Boutaris after he left the family Boutari Wine Group. Its vineyard story began much earlier: in 1970 Yiannis planted Xinomavro on the eastern foothills of Mount Vermion near Naoussa, followed in 1985 by white varieties in the highlands of Amyndeon. Today Stellios Boutaris, a fifth-generation winemaker, leads the estate with a philosophy based on innovation, respect for tradition and deep vineyard knowledge.

Their approach

What sets them apart.

01

High-elevation vineyards

Naoussa and Amyndeon allow the estate to work with cool, mountainous sites in northern Greece.

02

Innovation + tradition

Kir-Yianni explicitly combines innovation, respect for tradition and deep wine knowledge.

03

Northern Greece

The estate is an excellent reference point for understanding the more continental, mountainous face of Greek wine.

Why we follow them.

Because Kir-Yianni helps move beyond shortcuts about Greek wine. It introduces Macedonia, elevation and a northern wine culture that gives Assyrtiko an entirely different context.
